On December 4, the CCEE of ADA University organized a round-table discussion on “Financing the Development of the Caspian Oil Fields.” The speaker was Charles H. Allison, Jr., Associate Professor of New School, who has more than 20 years of experience in investment banking and risk evaluation in the energy sector.
Professor Allison’s speech provided theoretical background on how energy companies evaluate political and economic risks and financial management before investing in the oil and gas sector. He then presented a case study exploring the background and challenges faced BP/Amoco in the process of the development of oil fields in the Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea.
Professor Allison’s speech generated great interest, as the Azerbaijani government is conducting talks with oil companies on the extension of the 1994 agreement, the “Contract of Century”, which expires in 2024. The speaker also underlined the differences in corporate strategies today compared with the early 1990s.
