CCEE hosted a national workshop with UNEP on “Integrated Approach to Environmental Sustainability in Development Planning” on June 4, 2015.
The workshop’s objective was to map out best practices and specific examples of mainstreaming environmental sustainability into the national development planning, and provide evidence-based technical support to the Government to embed the integrated approach at the national level.
The workshop also sought to inform and raise the awareness of key Azerbaijani organizations and strategic stakeholders on the integrated approach and its basic principles, especially with regard to the post-2015 development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals to be adopted this year by the international community at the UN General Assembly.
As a result, participants considered the challenges of integration from economic, social, environmental and governance perspectives, which serve as a basis for feedback on and validation of the approach, collection of lessons learned and best practices in applying it, and definition of the bases for reproducing it in preparing and executing policies, programs and projects.
After short presentations by participants on their roles in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the workshop discussed governance issues related to the green economy, environmental sustainability and implementing the SDGs at the national level.
